Horse riding
Spend a magical morning or afternoon in a typical Fijian village, and view for your self the beauty of nature. About half an hour drive from Wananavu is an inland village, where the villagers will greet you with a Kava ceremony and entertain you with singing and dancing, before they take you on a tour of their village. Then you will be guided on a gentle 15 minute walk (or you can go by horse if you choose) to a beautiful waterfall slide which gently cascades in to a heart shaped pool. Here you can cool down in the fresh mountain water, jump or slide from the top if you are more daring and generally take it all in. You are in paradise. Returning to the village, you can see handicrafts on display which have been made locally and are available for sale before you head back to the resort. Bring bathers and sturdy shoes for the walk. (minimum 4 people required)
Visit Nakorokula Village, the local market in Vaileka town and the tomb of Fiji’s last cannibal chief.
Drive nearby to visit Nakorokula village where you will be greeted and entertained by the village, then proceed to Ratu Udre Udre tomb, a chief famous for his appetite for human flesh and said to have consumed many human beings before his death in the late 19th Century. The stones surrounding the base of his tomb are how he kept tally of his grisly meals. You can then take time to see how locals buy their fresh fish, meat and produce with a visit into town. Maybe you can pick up some local goods yourself. This bustling little town is the lifeblood of the area and well worth a visit.
